About Me

Hello and welcome to My Canadian Finances. I am a 21 year-old Canadian that, unlike the majority of individuals who blog about finances, chose to enter the workforce directly out of high school instead of pursuing a post-secondary education. I am a technician and received courses offered through my employer, which offer no credit toward an actual trade. Despite this, I have an extremely stable, well-paying and rewarding job that can lead to a pension.

At the age of 44, I will be eligible for my pension. This is quite young, but I wish to strive for more than just receiving a pension check. I enjoy money and the growth of it. This leads me to my next topic of identifying the purpose of this blog.

This blog will be about my debts, investments, savings, and mortgages (soon perhaps?). My Finances.

I will not blog about anything that I do not own or partake in. I will not analyze stocks, bonds, or investments. I am far from an expert – I will not recommend money-saving tips unless I have tried and proved them myself. I promise that I will not do any of the above, and if I do, feel free to shout and yell at me.

Now that we have gotten through what I will not blog about, let’s discuss what I will be posting on My Canadian Finances. I intend for this to be an Aide-Mémoire for the decisions I will make throughout the course of my life, as well as a place to clearly define my savings and investment strategies. It will also serve as a timeline of my finances.

Most importantly, though, I will be able to receive input and suggestions on what others think and have experienced.

I do not have the best writing skills in the world, but I will try to write in a clear and concise manner. Rest assured that if my writing seems very simplified, it is because I try to make it so. When I first started reading about finances, I got lost very quickly in all the jargon and fancy words that were being thrown around unnecessarily. If at any time anything I write is unclear, please comment.

So please, welcome to My Canadian Finances and be sure to share your story with me!

  1. Good luck with your new blog! Don’t worry too much about the grammar. Most people won’t care too much. Just take a few minutes to proofread each post and you’ll be fine.

Do you see yourself sticking with your current employer long term? That is a decent age to qualify for a pension, but I’m sure it’s tough to think 20+ years down the road.

    • Unless there is a drastic change in my life, I will most likely stay with my current employer. I love what I do, I also feel very privileged doing what I do. I do not make the greatest salary in the world but I take pride in knowing that throughout the entire country of Canada there are more people that work at any single Walmart than there are that do what I do.

  2. I’m really enjoying your blog! It’s crazy how many similarities there are between our stories. It’ll be interesting to compare our progress!
